Rescue Installation Worker
Briefing:
Spitzbergen is an island north of the Norwegian
mainland. Both Norwegians and Russians have always inhabited it.
When Norway was given control of the island, it was agreed that the
Russians could use parts of the island for mining operations. During
the Cold War, the Soviet Union had built several secret military
bases on the island. It has been revealed, that in the case of a
full blown war, that the island would be the first thing the
Russians would seize due to it's strategic location.
Intel has informed us that a Russian general by the
name of Oleg Bogdanov has taken control of a key radar station on
the island, and has managed to seize a cache of older Soviet
weapons. It is feared that there may be some base workers there
being held as hostages. Officials in Moscow are denying that this is
a deliberate act of war, and deny any prior knowledge of the attack
on the station. Washington has given us top priority to implement a
covert operation to counter this move. The Norwegians have some
valuable information regarding the location of some nuclear warheads
that we wouldn't want to fall into the wrong hands. Gentleman, we
can't be too sure if this is the real thing, but we need to act
swiftly to find out. Satellite imagery has shown us that the
Russians have armor support and a SAM near the base. The Norwegians
have agreed to provide limited support in the operation. You will be
inserted by a Blackhawk just below the base.
Good Luck!
Cinemas:
There is a short insertion cinema of the player
platoon descending onto the insertion zone via a UH-60.
Once the mission objectives are completed there is a
cinema of the UH-60 returning to extract the player's platoon.
Encounter Areas:
A - Insertion Zone just outside blown gate opening.
Shortly after insertion, a M113 will move forward and pick up the
Norwegian forces guarding the gate and move towards the Radio
Tower. Once the Radio Tower is secure the Norwegian Forces will
move towards the Barracks. Once the Barracks are secured, they will
move to the top of the hill and provide support for the assault on
the Radar Communications Center.
B - Small Outpost consisting of an outdoor patrol
guarding the Radio Tower. There are also a couple of manned light
machine guns inside the building on the south side guarding the
approach up to the Radio Tower. The size of the force varies
depending on the difficulty level selected.
C - BMP on Veteran and Elite Levels that is assigned
a plan based on the player's movements. If the player moves north
first the BMP will attempt to intercept and engage the players in
the clearing. If the player heads south the BMP will react by
guarding the back side of the Radio Tower.
D - T72 guarding the road. Assigned a plan to kill
the BMP if it makes it that far. An alternative plan is assigned if
the player bypasses the southern half of the map at the moment that
the SAM crew detects the player's presence. This plan assigns the
T72 to take the road up to the top of the hill and provide over
watch fire to support the defenders of the Radar Communications
Center.
E - A small outpost of patrols roaming around the
living facilities. There is also a small team inside the dining
facilities. The size of the force varies depending on the
difficulty level selected.
F - A small outpost guarding the inside of the
offices. The size of the force varies depending on the difficulty
level selected.
G - Patrol and Sniper Zone. There are several
patrols roaming the country side just north of where the grass turns
to snow. They will react to the player's presence on the southern
half of the map to support those areas. The snipers are camouflaged
on high points guarding the approaches from the south. They all
have an excellent field of fire.
H - SAM and its crew guarding the western approaches
to the Radar Communications Center. It will fire a missile at the
player upon detection.
I - The Radar Communications Center houses the
hostage and some guards throughout the complex. The size of the
force varies depending on the difficulty level selected.
J - A snowmobile with a two man crew circles the
Radar Communications Center. They will dismount and attack the
player on sight.
K - Extraction Zone. The Helicopter will land here
and retrieve the player upon completion of the mission.

-
Rescue the Installation Worker
Kill all the enemies guarding the Installation
Worker, then touch the worker to initiate the escort. Do not let
the hostage die prior to reaching the extraction zone.
-
Demolish Radar Communications Center
Plant a demo charge on the rooftop of the Radar
Communications Center near the electrical box. Do not run out of
demo charges first. The demo charges will explode (the ones
placed on the Radar) 30 seconds after its placement. Take care
to not be in the vicinity or you will be killed by the blast.
-
Secure Radio Tower
Kill the patrols and the platoon on the inside
of the building to secure this objective.
-
Secure the Offices
Kill the enemy guards in this building to
complete this objective.
-
Secure the Barracks
Kill the outside patrols near the barracks and
clear the buildings to finish this objective.
-
Destroy the SAM
Kill the SAM to complete this objective. Do not
run out of AT rockets first. Be sure to save at least one
rocket for the end of the game to take this vehicle out.
-
Reach the Extraction Zone
Bring all surviving members here as well as the
rescued hostage to complete this objective.
Note that the only objective displayed to the player
at the start of the mission is to rescue the installation worker.
Two objectives will be randomly determined and assigned to the
player about 25 meters into the complex via a dialog box. The
Extraction objective is revealed when the escort of the hostage is
initiated. The zone is hidden at game start and revealed at this
time.
Failure Conditions:
The Hostage is killed prior to being escorted to the
extraction zone.
Depending on the objectives assigned the game can
also fail for the following two reasons:
The player runs out of demo charges
The player runs out of AT Rockets.
Team members are all killed before objectives are
complete.
